About What I Can Cook With
What I Can Cook With helps you answer one everyday question: “What can I cook with what I have?” Pick the ingredients (items) already in your kitchen, and we show you dishes you can make right now.
How it works
- Pick what you have. Choose ingredients from your fridge and kitchen shelves. You can search in English, Hindi, Bengali, Hinglish or Benglish, like turmeric, हल्दी, হলুদ, haldi or holud.
- See what you can cook. Recipes you can make with everything you picked show first. Next come recipes that need only 1 or 2 more items.
- Cook step by step. Each recipe lists the ingredients, simple steps and serving ideas. Change the number of servings and the amounts adjust to kitchen measures like ½ tsp or 1 cup.
What we focus on
- Home cooking with home ingredients. Our recipes use everyday items you can find in most kitchens. When a recipe calls for a packaged or ready-made product, we use a simple home swap (substitute) instead.
- Indian home kitchens first. We start with dishes cooked in Indian homes, written so anyone can follow them.
- Clear and simple. Short steps, plain words and no long stories before the recipe.
- Less food waste. Cooking with what you already have means fewer forgotten vegetables and fewer extra trips to the shop.
Where our recipes come from
Our recipes are everyday home recipes, drawn from traditional home cooking and our own recipe research. We write each recipe in our own words and check it by hand before it goes live. When a source does not give an amount (quantity), we suggest a normal home amount. You can read the full process in our Editorial Policy and Credits page.
Ingredient details such as nutrition per 100 g come from public sources like USDA FoodData Central and Wikipedia. Some ingredients do not have nutrition figures yet.
